Lindstrom Fire Department has announced funeral arrangements following the passing of firefighter Mike Gaustad.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MICHAEL ALLEN GAUSTAD, age 49, on February 22nd due to complications following a double lung transplant. He fought fiercely for 5 long months. Mike was born on August 14, 1970 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Allen and Gail Gaustad. They returned back to Minnesota to be close to family. He graduated from Chisago Lakes High School, class of 1988. He pursued a career in radio broadcasting, carpentry and construction, until he discovered his passion in being a fireman and working at Rosenbauer where firetrucks are designed and manufactured. Mike was a 20-year volunteer fireman for the Lindstrom Fire Department and was Assistant Chief for several years until his lung disease took him out of action. Mike was a selfless and giving first responder and an asset to our community. Mike loved hunting and fishing, making people laugh, BBQing and cooking with friends and family, riding his Harley, feeding and watching the birds and gardening. He was a wonderful and loving father who was so proud of his children and he will be forever missed by them most of all. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Marguerite and Allen Gaustad, and maternal grandparents John and Mary Stickney.

He is survived by his children Marilyn, Grace, Gabe and their mother Sarah, his daughter Claire and her mother Karen, his parents Allen and Gail, his aunts Marty Jackson and Marykay Harris, and many special and dear friends and loved ones.
