Bush approved legislation requiring the United States flag to be lowered to half-staff on all Federal buildings to memorialize fallen firefighters. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/107\/plaws\/publ51\/PLAW-107publ51.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Public Law 107-51<\/a>&nbsp;requires this action to occur annually in conjunction with observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firehero.org\/events\/memorial-weekend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">39th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service<\/a> will be held Sunday, October 4, 2020, to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.&nbsp; At that time, flags should be lowered to Half-Staff from sunrise to sunset on October 4, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To view the firefighters being honored, visit https:\/\/www.firehero.org\/events\/memorial-weekend\/2020-roll-honor\/.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other ways to honor firefighters are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firehero.org\/events\/memorial-weekend\/about\/bells-across-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bells across America<\/a><\/li><li>Light the night<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On October 16, 2001, President George W.
