Laura Zumbusch-Wood – Victoria FD
Laura Ann Zumbusch-Wood finished her journey with kidney cancer on the morning of Sunday, July 27th, 2025. In her final months, weeks, days, and moments, she was surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones.
Laura didn’t just walk into a room – she arrived, with a spark in her eye and a warmth that wrapped around you like a hug. She made space for others with her laughter, her kindness, her creativity, and her fierce love. Laura’s heart was rooted in deep connection with nature, a connection that inspired her to grow a landscaping business and garden center to enable others to enjoy nature and the outdoors as she did. She used her wisdom, kindness, and love to truly inspire and teach those she worked with. Her professional legacy will continue through each of her dedicated co-workers and peers.
Laura loved her work, but found her true passion in the 16 years she spent as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Victoria. She never encountered a more loving, caring group than the family of dedicated firefighters she joined there, and she poured her heart and soul into the job from day one. Her dedication to helping the community bloomed in recent years as she helped design the city’s new fire station. Though her doctors did not think she would live past December of 2024, she boldly attended the groundbreaking ceremony in June of 2025. Her legacy of dedication to the community and passion for service will live on, as her son Zack proudly followed in her footsteps to become a volunteer firefighter, joining in July of 2024. His caring spirit and service to the community will continue to be a testament to the love and kindness that Laura shared with everyone she met.
Laura’s life never would have been complete without her extended family. She always enjoyed gathering for kids’ sports games, walks, dinners, and more than anything she loved hosting the whole group for weekends at the family cabin. Her love brought us all together and her creativity made sure we enjoyed every minute. We will all miss her dearly.
Laura’s deep spirit of love, kindness, and creativity will live on in all those who knew her.
Rest easy, Laura. We’ll Take it from here.
