Jamie began his career as a volunteer firefighter in Golden Valley before working for the Minnesota fire marshal’s office. He was then hired as the St. Paul Fire Department’s chief investigator and recently retired. He was well known both locally and internationally.

Obituary
James Jay (Jamie) NOVAK; Age 58, of Center City, MN, passed suddenly on July 29, 2018. Jamie was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, and sister and brothers-in-law. He is survived by his parents, Daniel, Jr. and Jeanne, wife Barb, children Cameron (Mandy), Ariel (significant other, Tiffani), Dominic (significant other, Shayla), grandson, Mikah, grandchildren in-heart, Jace and Nevaeh, sisters Jill (Larry) and Jodie (Mike), brother Scott, many special brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Jamie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all he met, but above all he was dedicated, kind, generous, loyal, and the consummate prankster. Jamie enjoyed hunting and being outdoors, photography, Mountain Dew, and riding his tractor, but more than anything he loved spending time with his growing family. He strived to make the world a safer place and leaves behind a legacy in the fire investigation community. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Visitation 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7th, at Grandstrand Funeral Home, 11900 Lake Lane North, Lindstrom and one hour prior to service at church.
