Governor Dayton Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Mayer Fire Captain Jeffrey Allen Vollmer

ST. PAUL, MN – In honor and remembrance of Fire Captain Jeffrey Allen Vollmer, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Captain Vollmer was a second generation firefighter and a twelve-year veteran of the Mayer Fire Department. He was a graduate of Ortonville High School and the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. In addition to serving as a firefighter, Captain Vollmer was employed as a construction journeyman and had operated his own business.

Captain Vollmer tragically and suddenly passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, after a firefighter training session. He is survived by his wife, Emily; daughters, Anika and Kennedi; parents, Art and Arlene; sister, Jaclyn; grandmother, Violet Vollmer; and step-brothers, Travis and Christian May.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Freshwater Community Church in Waconia. Visitation continues on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service at Mayer Lutheran High School.

At the direction of the Governor, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota first responders fallen in the line of duty, on the day of interment.

The proclmation for Captain Vollmer reads:

WHEREAS: Jeffrey Allen Vollmer was born on September 2, 1977, and raised in Ortonville, Minnesota; and

WHEREAS: Jeff was a graduate of Ortonville High School and the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks; and

WHEREAS: Jeff was an exemplary Emergency Medical Technician and Captain for the Mayer Fire Department, with twelve years of excellent service; and

WHEREAS: Jeff was always willing to support others and was greatly admired and respected in the community; and

WHEREAS: Jeff was a devoted and caring husband to his wife, Emily, and loving father to his two daughters, Anika Faith and Kennedi Hope; and

WHEREAS: Jeff tragically and suddenly passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, after a firefighter training session; and

WHEREAS: Jeff is survived by his family: wife, Emily, and daughters, Anika and Kennedi; parents, Art and Arlene Vollmer; sister and brother,in-law,Jaclyn and Mike Ekern; grandmother, Violet Vollmer; mother-in-law, Carol Mason; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Karen Mason; step brothers, Travis and Christian May; sister,in-law,Jessica Stutzman; and niece and nephews, Elijah, Hunter, Cohen, Tatum; and

WHEREAS: A funeral service for Jeff will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota; and

WHEREAS: The State of Minnesota recognizes Captain Jeffrey A. Vollmer for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow Minnesotans, with its deepest gratitude; and

WHEREAS: The thoughts and prayers of a grateful State are with Jeff’s family, friends, and entire community, as they mourn this terrible loss and celebrate Jeff’s life and many contributions.
